Wolfgang Strasser - Chiemsee Rough Cut

Wolfgang Strasser - Chiemsee Rough Cut

Wind all over Germany at the 22. October – even at Wolfgang Strassers “Lake Chiemsee” the conditions allowed to go out on the small kit. The choice of “Woife” has been the 4,4 which was pretty powered up and 5°C made it almost feel like a wintersession. Despite the cold weather the Wark/Sailloft Freestyler had the chance to bust out some moves in front of the camera. Thx to his wife Carola! Have a look below – rough cut, but we like it

La Torche by a drone

La Torche by a drone

Big footage from La Torche. Just before the wind increased at day 4 of competition the team around Nautimages had the chance to film “La Point de La Torche” from above with a drone. Check out the footage in the video below – big ups for that!

PWA La Torche - Single Elimination

Ricardo Campello claims the victory in front of Tom Traversa & Brawzinho

PWA La Torche - Single Elimination

La Torche produced the conditions everyone has been eagerly awaiting on day four of the La Lorche PWA Grand Slam as the contest burst into life. Winds of 20-30 knots, combined with half-mast to logo high waves and sunshine set the perfect platform for the world’s most radical sailors to wow the thousands of adoring fans, who had gathered on La Torche’s pristine white sand beaches, and they certainly weren’t disappointed as the standard of the action went, quite literally, sky high with explosive moves being thrown left, right and centre. After an epic day of competition – Ricardo Campello (Patrik / Point-7 / MFC) – laid down the gauntlet to claim his first single elimination victory since Denmark, 2011, and he will now be praying that he can hold onto his lead as he looks to secure his maiden event win on the PWA Wave World Tour.

Dany Bruch going big

Ricardo lined up against Thomas Traversa (Tabou / GA Sails) in the winners final – the RBSC & Cold Hawaii winner from France earlier stole the victory in his semifinal against Marcilio ‘Brawzinho’ Browne (Goya Windsurfing / MFC) when he pulled off a sick frontside 360 on the final wave. Having missed out on a place in the top three at the previous two events, the reigning world champion put the disappointment of missing out on the winners’ final behind him to defeat – Robby Swift (JP / NeilPryde / Mystic / Maui Ultra Fins / SWOX) – and return to the top three.

Marcilio Browne

If results stay the same then Campello will rise to third overall, after discarding seventeenth place from Tenerife and Traversa won’t be too disappointed with the result as Victor Fernandez (Fanatic / North / MFC) had to settle for joint fifth, meaning the Frenchman’s second place takes him to the top of the overall world rankings – for the time being at least – with just one event to go.

Don’t miss the highlight video of yesterday below. La Torche probably delivered the best conditions on the world tour for this year. Let’s see what there’s to come today. The forecast is set to see much lighter winds – here’s the livestream so anyway you won’t miss the action as it happens!

PWA La Torche - Day 1

massive waves - less wind

PWA La Torche - Day 1

The opening day of the La Torche PWA Grand Slam promised so much, with big waves and strong winds, between 20-30 knots forecast, but that isn’t quite how the day played out. Whilst, the swell was still evident – with over mast high sets rolling into the Bay of Audierne throughout the day – unfortunately the expected winds never arrived, leaving not only the sailors disappointed, but also the crowds that had gathered on the beach.

The wave fleet registered between 9:30am-10:30am with the much anticipated forecast in mind, but then spent the remainder of the day on hold, before eventually being released at 6pm. Meanwhile, the slalom sailors registered for the upcoming eight days of competition from 12:30pm until 2:30pm, after a meeting with all sailors had been held to discuss the environmental concerning this being a green event. With the wave sailors still on standby – Robby Swift (JP / NeilPryde / Mystic / Maui Ultra Fins) – couldn’t resist the waves any longer and headed out for a regular surf at around 3pm, much to the joy of the crowds who had gathered, on what turned out to be a glorious sunny afternoon, with the weather proving to be more like summer than autumn.

Shortly before 5pm – Ricardo Campello (Patrik / Point-7 / MFC) – became the first, and only sailor, to attempt to windsurf. After battling in the light winds, for half an hour, to make it out the back, Campello eventually managed to catch one or two waves, but once on the wave the Brazilian simply didn’t have the power to make the most of the wave on offers. With conditions unfortunately remaining unsuitable day one drew to a, quieter than expected close.

The wind is forecast to be lighter than today with 10-15 knots being predicted for much of the day, but still with a significant swell of almost 3 metres at 13 seconds. However, tomorrow’s wind is supposed to be more onshore, which could make things tricky. Skippers’ meeting for the wave fleet tomorrow has been called for 9am with the first possible start at 9:30am. Meanwhile, the skippers’ meeting for the men’s and women’s slalom will be held at 10am with the action commencing from 11am, if conditions allow.

Here we go with the livestream from La Torche. Yesterday all the sailors were out and got a gnarly warm-up session with big waves but pretty light winds. The waves are still there – but unfortunately the forecast predicting gusts of up to 30 knots hasn’t come through as yet. Hopefully it arrives at some point throughout the afternoon. We’ll keep you up2date.

Freestyle at Laguna Beach Park

Freestyle at Laguna Beach Park

“Laguna Beach Park” – the centre of former EFPT sailor Stam Promponas on the island of Naxos definitely proved that it’s a top freestyle spot in the past few months. Many international riders travelled to Naxos and published a bunch of good videos. Today the next clip made it into our inbox – this time from some greek riders who’re having a good time there. Check out their footage – also “boss” Stam busting out some Kabikuchis and no handed burners  – maybe we’ll see him again joining some competitions? He’s still on top form!
