Steven van Broeckhoven wins the EFPT for the 4th time

EFPT 2014 - Results

Wind or no-wind for the final EFPT Event of the year in South France? The forecasted light South wind at the final day of competition left the EFPT crew hoping for a local effect that would make it stronger and make a freestyle competition possible, yet it didn’t fill in which left organisers, crew and riders disappointed afterall. With only one windy event this year, the ranking from Podersdorf is the “Overall Ranking” for the year as well and a huge amount of people joined the prize-giving. Third place goes to highly talented and impressive young rider Jacopo Testa (RRD) from Italy who showed a decent performance in the lighter wind in Austria. Second place goes to Everon Tonky Frans (Tabou/Gaastra) from Bonaire, who currently lives in Lanzarote. Tonky convinced the judges with his fluent style even on his biggest freestyle sail. First place in the European Freestyle Pro Tour overall ranking and therefor European Champion for the fourth time (2009/2010/2013/1014) is once again Steven Van Broeckhoven (JP/Neilpryde) from Belgium. Steven is one of the guys on tour who is always willing to make a competition happen and is always up for a good challenge which makes him a great athlete. Next to bringing a lot of input and feedback to the EFPT he is also always living the example of a sportsman- clearly inspiring the younger riders on tour. We are delighted and proud to crown him as the European Freestyle Pro Tour Champion and are looking forward to see more of his extraordinary freestyle skills at our events in the future

Steven stated:“I am really happy to win the overall title again! Even though we didn’t have wind on the last two events, it is still a first place and the conditions in Podersdorf have been challenging and most of the best riders of the world were there. So I am super happy to win the tour again!”

With a huge amount of people watching the prize-giving, the third EFPT event at the European Freestyle Expression ended with a beautiful sunset and the outlook for the EFE 2015, where we are hoping for the return of the storms that hit Six Fours les Plages in 2012. For more info click www.efpt.net

Enjoy the mix of everything Steven has experienced down there! Thanks to everyone who helped us on the island especially Nikos Hatsipapas from Blue Garden, Olympos.

Tips for one of the hardest ducking moves

Stam Promponas - Kabikuchi

Stam Promponas was used to compete the European Freestyle Pro Tour but since 2013 he didn't showed up - not withouth any reason because Stam opened his own windsurfcenter at the island of Naxos. "Laguna Beach Park" really offers perfect conditions for new moves with flatwater and some little ramps for the latest moves. Many young freestylers like Nicolo Tagliafico, Maaike Huvermann or Riccardo Marca - who just sent us this normal stance kono - visited the spot.

A few weeks ago we found this perfect Kabikuchi and asked Stam for some tips.
Over to him:

The Kabikuchi is the normal way of progression after the skopu - where you do the first part of the move in Switch Stance and than sliding in regular stance. For the Kabikuchi you have to duck the sail in normal stance which is a bit more difficult and then slide more or less in switch stance which is super difficult.

It's really important to get a feeling for the duck and if it's "good enough" to go further with this move or just sail flip the sail to the other side again and go for something else. If you got the duck right, you have to hit the chop with full speed to get the sliding part done afterwards. The conditions here at "Laguna Beach Park" are perfect to progress because you can duck in flat water and have a little ramp to get up plus flat water afterwards for the sliding - so you pretty much can't get it better.

Wolfgang Strasser - Chiemsee Rough Cut

Wind all over Germany at the 22. October – even at Wolfgang Strassers “Lake Chiemsee” the conditions allowed to go out on the small kit. The choice of “Woife” has been the 4,4 which was pretty powered up and 5°C made it almost feel like a wintersession. Despite the cold weather the Wark/Sailloft Freestyler had the chance to bust out some moves in front of the camera. Thx to his wife Carola! Have a look below – rough cut, but we like it

Freestyle at Laguna Beach Park

“Laguna Beach Park” – the centre of former EFPT sailor Stam Promponas on the island of Naxos definitely proved that it’s a top freestyle spot in the past few months. Many international riders travelled to Naxos and published a bunch of good videos. Today the next clip made it into our inbox – this time from some greek riders who’re having a good time there. Check out their footage – also “boss” Stam busting out some Kabikuchis and no handed burners  – maybe we’ll see him again joining some competitions? He’s still on top form!

Sam Esteve - Air Skopu

Sam Esteve - the 16 years old Freestyle talent from France - recently got a lot of attention in the social media due his perfect "Air Skopu" with many Likes & Shares on Facebook and re-tweets on Twitter.

Sam's living in South France just 100m away from the beach plus he has some really good freestyle spots for every wind direction in the surroundings. A pretty good base to grow fast in Freestyle!

Sam about his perfect Air Skopu: "I did this move in Port-la-Nouvelle with perfect flatwater and 40 knots of wind so I was pretty maxed out on my 90l Freestyler and the 4,0 but these conditions are definitely the right ones to add some "air" to the "Skopu". After ducking the sail you still have to be on full speed and you need the right timing to take-off as well. Since I have my new freestyle board it's a lot easier for me to get all these requirements together."
