Rick Jendrusch - unused clips 2014

The PWA freestylers already finished their season with the final event in Sylt about 1 week ago and most of them busy making plans for their wintertime – or editing highlight clips of the year. Like Rick Jendrusch who’s going to upload one in about 2 weeks but he still has some “unused clips” which are definitely too good to delete them so have a look below and stay tuned for the “real clip”

Riccardo Marca about "The Kono"

Riccardo Marca is one of the up & coming freestylers from Italy. Born & raised close to Rimini, "Rikki" moved to the island of Sardinia about 1 year ago to study - and train as hard as possible at the "Windsurfing Club Sa Barra" - the spot of Gigi Madeddu. He stepped up his freestyle level a lot and talking through the "normal stance" Kono.

Riccardo Marca: The normal kono is one of the new "power moves". The difficult part of the move is the first one, the ducking. To get a perfect ducking in all conditions - both strong and light winds - is a long way.

The conditions which I prefer to train this move are flat water with little chops to use them like a ramp and stronger winds with around 20-25 knots. If you have light wind it's hard to duck the sail without losing power, but on the other hand the "air time" get's difficult with stronger winds. As you see, you need a lot of feeling for your equipment - and pure freestyle sails are worth for this moves due the ducking get's a lot easier".

I prefere the 93 litres Fanatic Skate and 4,8 to 4,4 North Sails Idol Ltd."

PWA Windsurf Worldcup Sylt - Freestyle Clip

The freestyle sailors of this years PWA Windsurf Worldcup Sylt were made to wait until the penultimate day of the contest in order to begin the single elimination, but the wait was more than worth it as the contortionists of the windsurfing world produced another fantastic display.

Jose "Gollito" Estredo was on fire throughout the single elimination and the Venezuelan was rewarded with not only the event victory, but so much more, as he saw his outside chance of winning this year’s world title come true - meaning Gollito now has an incredible six world crowns to his name. Estredo entered the event in third place and needed to win to be in with a shot, whilst also requiring Kiri Thode to finish fourth or worse. Thankfully, for Gollito, Thode, suffered a surprising fifth place exit, leaving the true king of freestyle back on top.

2011 PWA Freestyle World Champion - Steven Van Broeckhoven - was able to defeat Tonky Frans (Tabou / GA Sails) in the losers’ final to complete the top three, with Frans having to settle for fourth. The Belgian maestro narrowly missed out in the title battle with Jose ‘Gollito’ Estredo in the semifinals, in what proved to be an almost inseparable heat. Unfortunately, for Van Broeckhoven the decision went to his opponent, but he can still be delighted with second overall for 2014.

Overall Results 2014 PWA Freestyle World Tour:

1st Jose ‘Gollito’ Estredo (Fanatic / North / MFC)

2nd Steven Van Broeckhoven (JP / NeilPryde)

3rd Kiri Thode (Starboard / GA Sails)

New Worldchampions in Freestyle Windsurfing

PWA Windsurf Worldcup Sylt - Results

The final day of the 2014 DAVIDOFF Cool Water Sylt PWA Super Grand Slam saw the light winds return, meaning the final action of the event was another SUP Race. With no more competition being possible today – Jose ‘Gollito’ Estredo (Fanatic / North / MFC) – was crowned the PWA Freestyle World Champion for the sixth time in his illustrious career, after his victory in the single elimination yesterday. Meanwhile, Arnon Dagan (RRD / NeilPryde), celebrated his maiden victory on the PWA Slalom World Tour after a nail biting week of waiting

At 3:30pm the official prize giving was held as the winners were crowned in front of a packed out beach to close the curtain on another great event in Sylt. After the prize giving we caught up with the winners:

PWA: Gollito, how does it feel to win your sixth world title?

Gollito: “It’s a dream to win my sixth world title. It feels amazing, I never expected it in my life. I’m really happy to have won again and be back at the top. I hope I can continue like this in the future and I will keep training as hard as I can over the winter to make sure I can keep up.”

PWA: You came into the final event of the year in third place, did you think you’d be able to come out as the world champion?

Gollito: “I never expected it to be honest. I just came to compete and try to get a good result in the final event of the year. To leave as the world champion is unbelievable. I feel lucky, but this is competition sailing. Last year I sailed really good, but I had a bad finish to the year, this year it worked out differently.”

Next up we spoke to Arnon Dagan, who claimed victory for the first time in his career:

PWA: What was going through your head yesterday when you went over the start line early during the semifinal?

AD: “The first thing that went through my head was that’s it! if I didn’t win this then I would never win one. The second thing was okay… I’m going to go to the beach now. The third thing was oh my god I still have to sail the losers’ final.”

PWA: How does it feel to earn your first event victory?

AD: “It feels amazing. It feels like all the hard work paid off. It doesn’t feel real yet because it was only one round. After this I feel like I have good momentum now after Turkey and here and hopefully I can continue like this. Anything can happen now.”

PWA: What are you doing before the next event? And in-between La Torche and New Caledonia?

AD: “I’m pretty busy, first of all I’ll be going to RRD for a meeting and after that I’ll go a train in Croatia with Enrico Marotti. After La Torche I’ll be going to Maui for some sail testing with NeilPryde.”

PWA: Thanks Arnon and congratulations.

Finally, we spoke to freestyle queen – Sarah-Quita Offringa (Starboard / Mystic / Maui Ultra Fins) – who was officially crowned PWA Freestyle World Champion for an incredible seventh time, she said: “Yeaaah! Lucky number seven. I am actually really happy about it, especially because this year I had time to train and I feel like a progressed, in competition as well. When the called out my name earlier on stage, I felt a bit emotional. When I think about it, seven world titles is actually a lot, so… I don’t know… I’m thankful, it’s really good. I’m also happy to see Oda (Johanne) and Maaike (Huvermann) pushing because that also keeps pushing me to improve. I can’t wait.”

After the prize giving the sailors prepared to depart Sylt for another year and the slalom fleets and men’s wave sailors will meet again from the 18th October as they head to La Torche, France.

Team SUISTYLE - Duty Free

Loick Spicher and Jeremy Plüss – 2 freestylers from Switzerland – recently scored epic flatwater conditions in Dahab. Hard to believe that you’re almost alone on the water, alone in the restaurants and alone in the streets since the crisis in Egypt started about 2 years ago. The wind is still there – as you can see in the video below, so let’s travel to Egypt and help the windsurfcentres or better the tourism in general

Great video by Loick and Jeremy!!

Pushloop vs. Burner 360 - which move should win?

Yesterday night a big "Tow-In Night Session" took place at the Windsurf Worldcup Sylt and Ricardo Campello looked to have stolen the top prize, and the show, after finding a rogue wave and launching into a quite incredible pushloop - earning 44 points. However, five-time PWA Freestyle World Champion - Jose ‘Gollito’ Estredo - was still to come and the showman produced the goods yet again to steal the victory from under the nose of Campello, as he landed an immaculate burner 360. After a brief wait it was soon revealed that the Venezuelan had toppled Campello with 45 points

What do you think? Should a Burner 360 should count more than a Pushloop (at night without any wind)

Phil Soltysiak - US East Coast

The canadian Freestyler Phil Soltysiak is currently waiting for wind at the PWA Worldcup in Sylt, – and he’s using the waiting time to publish a new video which he recently captured in the United States where he travelled to straight after the PWA indoor event in Poland.

Phil:After arriving home from the Indoor in Poland, I received an e-mail from my sponsor Makani Fins that there was a good forecast for Lac Champlain in the state of New York, and for Cape Cod, Massachusetts. The best day was our first one on Lac Champlain, but we also scored 3 days of wind in Cape Cod before returning home. This is a short edit by Adam Wojtkowiak of some of the windsurfing on the trip.”

Phil is always up to some new adventures – he already did a lot “Windsurfing into the Unknown” Trips with Tricktionary owner “Rossi” in the past
